What would any edition of Indesign®: The Event be without The Project? Taking inspiration from the infectious pulse of Hong Kong city, The Project for the inaugural Hong Kong Indesign®: The Event followed the theme of “Rhythm”. Different showrooms paired up with Hong Kong’s most creative and turned out installations that certainly struck a chord with visitors.

A surreal landscape of strings reflected the unique rhythm of Hong Kong at Lamex

Each string was painstakingly tied one by one

Lamex and PSI Asia came away as the top editor’s pick at the inaugural installation of The Project in Hong Kong. Hanging from the ceiling is a landscape of strings, each painstakingly tied one by one. At times forming inverted towers and at other times forming upside-down plateaus, the strings collectively echoed the pulsating rhythm of Hong Kong’s urbanscape.

A kiosk of rhythm and music was a highlight at Haworth

Things got musical at Haworth where M Moser created a kiosk of beats and a drum set paired with one of Haworth’s booth seats. To up the ante, albeit not technically part of The Project, a DJ on the decks in the showroom was a definite way to keep the vibe going.

A larger-than-life sculpture by PDM International made for a memorable feature at Kokuyo

A tessellated wall sculpture stole the show at Kokuyo. PDM International used two-dimensional triangular modules to create a dynamic three-dimensional feature that visitors could interact with. More importantly, it represented the versatility of Kokuyo’s newly released modular sofa unit, Brackets.

The abstract installation art by SCAD was an apt representation of how Gesture fits into the modern office

The Project at Steelcase revolved around the brand’s new Gesture chair, which addresses the nine new postures brought about by the use of modern technology. SCAD placed technology that was literally whitewashed against the white walls of the showroom, representing how Gesture seamlessly integrates the use of modern technology into one’s everyday worklife.

Chris Chow Design Associates’ advocated art in living with large-scale illustrations

Art mural demonstrations at colourliving added to the day’s festivities

Art was the focus at colourliving, with the showroom pairing up with Chris Chow Design Associates to present unique installations and art experiences for visitors. Large illustrated panels veiled behind flowing water welcomed guests into the showroom while timed sessions on art mural production with saix mosaiconcept held visitors in rapt attention.

An abstracted cut-out of Wilkhahn’s Graph chair clearly reflected the genius simplicity of its design

Simple does it was the Wilkhahn showroom where PDM International made a two-dimensional representation of Wilkhahn’s Graph chair using Woven Image’s EchoPanel.

Seventhirtyam traced the evolution of David Trubridge lights

The cyclical nature of creation comes into play at Seventhirtyam with David Trubridge. Focusing on the evolution of idea to production to final product, Seventhirtyam created a lighting installation that represented the various stages of making a David Trubridge light – all this reflected against mirror panels that allude to how Trubridge’s creative process is a reflection of the Earth’s own cyclical nature.

An eco-conscious installation at VSC/TOTO awakened visitors to the importance of water conservation

Strings, exploded sanitary parts and a water balloon at VSC/TOTO drive home the idea of the pressure on water supply in many countries. The interactive installation by TOPOS Design was a reminder to consider the great need for water conservation – an issue that TOTO takes very seriously and has addressed with many of its technology and water management systems.

The highly sensorial installation was a hit with visitors

JEB and Woven Image with KplusK Associates
It was all about lighthearted fun with JEB, Woven Image and KplusK Associates. Named “Chime Experience”, KplusK Associates created a passageway from a series of Woven Image’s EchoPanel screens. Sandwiched between these screens were little bells that sang whenever people walked through and lightly ran their hands through the screens.
