Session Synopsis
While the growth in the range and quality of tile products is a clear blessing for specifiers, it comes with provisos. Aesthetic potential is one thing, but as ever, architects and designers need to consider other factors like cost and functionality. And, more now than ever before, they also need to factor in sustainability.
They need to make themselves aware of not just the material used in products but also a range of other variables like the manufacturing processes involved, the by-products of those processes, and the energy they consume. And they have to consider land utilisation and its effect on local environments, carbon offsets, transportation (of raw materials and finished products), and more.
How should specifiers approach this complex task? How can they assess individual products and where can they access the resources to help them do so?
