Material confidence at Ambit Curator’s Everton Buildings

Trust sits at the core of Everton Buildings’ new office, where Ambit Curator was given licence to move beyond convention and deliver a workplace defined by vision, materiality and assured detail.

Material confidence at Ambit Curator’s Everton Buildings

At Everton Buildings’ new workplace, creative freedom is treated as a marker of trust. Led by Ambit Curator, the design team was given licence to move beyond convention, crafting an office that feels assured, textural and intentionally bold. It’s a space shaped as much by long-standing partnership as by a curatorial eye.

Designed for a respected residential development company, the Everton Buildings office reflects a business in its stride. Having worked together previously, the relationship between client and designer was already well established, allowing Ambit Curator to approach the brief with confidence and clarity. The intention was not to replicate a familiar workplace formula, but to translate Everton Buildings’ evolving identity into a spatial language that communicates maturity, care and craftsmanship.

The output, then, is a workplace defined by restraint rather than excess, where every decision is deliberate. The office is designed as a composed sequence of spaces that support focus, collaboration and day-to-day functionality, while still offering moments of character. It’s a modern workplace, but one that resists the tropes often associated with contemporary commercial interiors.

Materiality is central to the narrative. A palette of soft neutrals establishes a calm base, allowing texture and form to carry the design. Timber, acoustic finishes and crafted joinery are layered throughout the space, reinforcing a sense of warmth and tactility. The atmosphere feels settled and assured, aligning with the quality of Everton Buildings’ premium residential projects.

A defining feature is the wall of joinery wrapped in Elton Group’s ALPI Sottsass Grey veneer. Introduced as an arresting gesture, the veneer’s distinctive pattern brings depth and a moment of drama to the interior. Rather than dominating the space, it anchors it – a confident expression of materiality that speaks to craftsmanship and precision. The joinery is both a backdrop and focal point, reinforcing the studio’s attention to detail at every junction.

Workstations are handled with the same level of care, where Schiavello’s customised Krossi workstations provide a refined, robust framework for daily work. Acoustic screens introduce softness and practicality across the floorplate. These elements work together to balance openness with privacy, supporting varied modes of work without fragmenting the space.

Acoustics bring a functional element and create a design opportunity. Acoustic materials are integrated seamlessly, from workstation screens to sculptural lighting elements, adding a gentle hush throughout the office. This acoustic layering contributes to a sense of calm and focus, elevating the everyday experience of the workplace. Rather than being hidden, these pieces are celebrated as part of the material story.

Underfoot, flooring choices further enhance the tactile quality of the space. Bolon’s woven vinyl flooring introduces texture and familiarity, grounding the interior while contributing to acoustic performance. Joinery details are refined with custom hardware, including Made Measure handles.

Lighting plays a quiet but critical role. Acoustic pendant lights soften the visual field while enhancing comfort, reinforcing the project’s nexus between performance and poise. Throughout the office, curves, edges and transitions are carefully resolved, giving the space a sense of composure and continuity.

Ultimately, the Everton Buildings office is an exercise in quiet confidence. It demonstrates what is possible when trust allows a designer to move beyond the expected – to design not for show, but for longevity, clarity and experience. Expressive yet understated, the workplace communicates professionalism with personality.

For Ambit Curator and Everton Buildings, this project stands as a clear testament to the value of enduring partnerships. It shows how creative freedom, when grounded in shared understanding and mutual respect, can produce a workplace that feels both deeply considered and entirely effortless.
