Feiko Bouman’s Architecture in a book
October 30th, 2007
Responsible for the redesign of North Sydney in the 1980s, Feiko Bouman has left his architectural mark across Australia in the form of numerous landmarks and projects. Now the work of the Dutch Australian architect, who’s name aptly translates to ‘the building man’, in Dutch, is accessible in a full colour book: ‘Feiko Bouman: Architecture’.
Bouman’s enthusiasm for civic architecture and his contribution to public life is evident in the pages and while his architectural style is distinctive, individual and foible-free, his curved forms are seen as the hallmarks of his work and are used as a foil to the regulatory lines of structure, roof and walls.
The book represents a selection of his projects, illustrating the Penrith Civic Centre where Bouman has wrapped the offices in a semicircle around a glassed atrium, and one of his most notable designs – the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame at Longreach in Queensland, which was opened by the Queen in 1988.
‘Feiko Bouman: Architecture’ was released in bookstores in July.
