Deputy Editor of Indesign, Mandi Keighran, and DQ Editor, Alice Blackwood, take on the Press preview day at Milan…
April 12th, 2011
Press previews had us running from one side of Milan to the other today, but there is some impressive work around town. As Jaime Hayon said when we spoke to him at Fritz Hansen, “This Milan is very exciting… there’s more thinking going on.” Our top picks from today were:
Jaime Hayon for Fritz Hansen: Fritz Hansen have devoted their entire showroom to Jaime Hayon’s new ’Favn’ sofa. ’Favn’, which is Danish for ’embrace’, uses a shell that references Fritz Hansen’s classic furniture to wrap around the body.
’Favn’ is designed to suit any space, and the showroom is divided into ten areas, showcasing the unique nature of each of the ten colours of ’Favn’ through music and colour.
Established & Sons: The Established & Sons exhibition is being held in the opulent Versace theatre this year. The new collection, which consists mainly of homewares – vessels, trays, blankets, ceramic hooks – along with a versatile table on wheels (’Spin’ table), was displayed on spot-lit plinths amidst classics from past years.
Poltrona Frau Milano Design Village: Some beautiful new pieces showcased in a creatively realised space. Highlights were the rainforest displays and the chair frozen in a block of ice.
Tom Dixon: Our picks from Tom Dixon’s exhibition were the lovely ’Void’ lights and the ’Etch’ collection.
