Smeg was a star performer at this year’s Eurocucina in terms of new product and innovation. Smeg’s 700 square metre stand proudly displayed more than 120 new products, some creating a whole new category for the brand and others showcasing new design, innovative technology and leading water and energy saving features. Smeg introduced a built-in extension of the stunning Victoria collection to include beautiful compact ovens and 75cm cooktops both in panna and black enamel.
Built-in refrigerators and wine coolers were another high point in the Smeg offering – aesthetically in complete harmony with the design appeal of other Smeg appliances with zero-radius hinges for absolute flush-mounting. Dishwashers are Smeg’s forte, given its history in commercial dishwashers for the medical and dental industries plus food services. This year, Smeg launched its latest ‘break-throughs’ with a new wash-arm with “planetary” action for 60cm dishwashers, as well as “Swing”, a redesigned spray arm for 45cm dishwashers, each delivering complete coverage of the wash drum, resulting in the highest possible wash index.
The highlight of the Smeg stand was the very latest collaboration between Smeg and revered Italian architect Guido Canali Canali has designed both 60cm and compact ovens for Smeg that are completely flush and feature innovations such as oven handles that sit flush with the oven door when not in use and black oven glass that becomes clear when the oven is in operation.
The introduction that stole the spotlight was Canali’s new cooktop range, Dolce Stil Novo which translates as sweet new style. The range exudes contemporary sophistication with some whimsical inclusions that both surprise and delight. The sleek cooktops, for example, have the option of trivets featuring birds, insects, fruit or leaves as well as new burner technology that subverts the traditional burner to a lower profile, with a single ring of fire that produces a 30 per cent energy saving.
