This year’s Interior Design Awards saw some of the most innovative interiors receive accolades – including the top award, which went to the fantastical fit-out of a Woollahra butchery.

Designed by Dreamtime Australia Design, the Victor Churchill butcher on Queen Street “challenges notions about retailing and the traditional idea of a butcher shop” said the jury. Indesignlive covered the project late last year.

The interiors break down barriers between the retail space and workspace, with the butchers working in plain view of customers behind a glass wall, while meats are cured on large hooks, rotating past Himalayan salt bricks. “The design intensifies the retail journey and the customer experience,” the jury citation explains.

The Awards also recognised the Rockpool Bar & Grill in Sydney by Bates Smart (Hospitality), the Goods Shed in Melbourne by BVN (Corporate Design and ESD) as well as the Calder Woodburn Rest Area by BKK Architects with VicRoads Landscape and Urban Design.

Residential Design Awards went to Chris Connell Design for Brimar Residence in Victoria and Tobias Partners for Parsley House in New South Wales.
