A Celebration of Excellence in Workplace Design

The INDE.Awards are the Indo–Pacific region’s most prestigious architecture and design awards, celebrating the projects, people, and products that are shaping the future of our built environment. Now in its 2025 edition, the program continues to spotlight innovation, sustainability, and cultural resonance across diverse typologies, from homes and workplaces to public spaces and products. This year, The Work Space category, proudly partnered by MillerKnoll, honours the workplace that exemplifies progressive thinking and creates an environment that inspires connection, creativity, and wellbeing.

In 2025, the award was bestowed upon Arup Workplace, Perth/Boorloo, designed by Hames Sharley with Arup and Peter Farmer Designs. This project redefines what a workplace can be, balancing people, culture, and Country in a way that feels both innovative and deeply grounded.

A Workplace That Connects People, Country, and Culture

Situated on Whadjuk Noongar Country, Arup’s new workplace is far more than an office, it is an embodiment of the global consultancy’s values and vision. The design narrative acknowledges the stories of place, honouring the past while making space for the voices and narratives of the future.

Hames Sharley worked in close collaboration with Arup and Peter Farmer Designs, weaving First Nations perspectives into the workplace through genuine codesign. This approach ensures that Country is not just referenced but actively present, fostering a workplace that is rich with meaning, identity, and inclusivity. The result is a space where architecture and culture intersect, creating an environment that feels authentic, connected, and regenerative.

Sustainability and Innovation at the Forefront

The Arup Workplace is a beacon of sustainable and regenerative design. The project was undertaken with the Living Building Challenge (LBC) in mind, one of the most rigorous global frameworks for regenerative buildings. In addition, it achieved WELL Platinum Certification, the highest accolade under the WELL Building Standard, highlighting its exceptional commitment to health, wellbeing, and environmental performance.

Biophilic design principles run throughout the workplace, introducing natural elements that enhance wellbeing, support collaboration, and inspire creativity. Every aspect of the fit-out reflects a rigorous approach to sustainable design, from material selection to spatial planning, reinforcing Arup’s mission to put people and the planet first.

A Benchmark for Future Workplaces

Winning The Work Space at the INDE.Awards 2025 is a testament to the project team’s vision and dedication. Arup Workplace, Perth/Boorloo sets a new benchmark for workplace architecture in the Indo–Pacific region, one that prioritises people, place, and culture while embodying the highest standards of sustainability.

As organisations around the world continue to rethink the future of work, this award-winning project stands as a shining example of how architecture and design can create spaces that are welcoming, collaborative, and transformative.
