The Housing Development Board (HDB) has unveiled its plans to build four new neighbourhood centres in new estates located in Punggol, Hougang and Sembawang. To be completed in the next three years, these will be the country’s first government-built neighbourhood centres in over a decade.
Designed based on public feedback, each neighbourhood centre will feature a wide range of amenities such as supermarkets, food courts, and dining and retail options. They will also be linked to transport nodes, such as an existing or upcoming MRT or LRT station, or a bus stop.
Beyond theses functional features, however, each new neighbourhood centre will also have further community- and design-led features built into their DNA.
Oasis Terraces, located next to Oasis LRT station at Punggol Waterway, will resemble a landscaped hill and will have cascading gardens and views of the waterfront.
Northshore Plaza at Punggol Northshore will serve as a test bed for technologies such as smart fans and an electronic carpark monitoring system.
Sembawang’s Canberra Plaza will contain an 11,000 square metre event plaza, a children’s water playground, food courts, restaurants and enrichment centres. It will also have a direct connection via a link bridge to the future Canberra MRT station.
In Hougang’s Buangkok Square, residents will get to enjoy a sheltered community plaza, which will be integrated with a neighbourhood park. It will have rain gardens, playgrounds and fitness stations.
