Designer chat! Studio Truly Truly in conversation

The Aussie expats who headed Netherlands-way to found Studio Truly Truly were back home for a series of design conversations presented by Cafe Culture+Insitu and Rakumba.

Australian duo Joel & Kate Booy design furniture, lighting and finishes from their Netherlands based home as Studio Truly Truly. Their work straddles the line between industry and art, with the studio having earned international acclaim for creating artistic products for the living environment – and thanks to Cafe Culture+Insitu and Rakumba, we were lucky enough to see an up close and personal conversation between the duo, with help by Authentic Design Alliance’s Anne-Maree Sargeant.

Held at Cafe Culture+Insitu’s Redfern showroom (before being taken on a roadshow to Melbourne and Brisbane), the event was a fascinating insight in the practical and philosophical realities, and challenges, of designing with a purpose. In attendance were some of the local design scene’s best and brightest, eager to soak up the knowledge, as well as have a fun night of networking and catching up over a glass of Veuve Clicquot champagne or two.

The chances to gain some real insight into the realities of design are always a pleasure to indulge in, and we thank Cafe Culture + Insitu, Rakumba and Authentic Design Alliance for their work in bringing Studio Truly Truly’s Joel and Kate Booy out for such an event.

We were also lucky enough to get the opportunity to chat one-on-one with Joel Booy, stay tuned for the interview up on Indesignlive soon.
