The DQ Design Collective space at SID brought together a unique collection of fresh product from select Australian suppliers and designers in a creative collaborative space.
August 27th, 2012
Guests entered the collective via the Oblica showroom in Fitzroy, where they could inspect designer fireplaces and while nibbling on tasty macaroons.
A short segue through the bright, iconic Missoni ’House’ by BOLON, led visitors through to a grungy warehouse space beyond where a raw fit-out was beautifully juxtaposed by a range of new Florence Broadhurst prints for the contract market from fabric supplier Materialised and Christopher Boots-designed lighting installations hanging from the rafters.
Visitors to the Collective got their first look-in at new lighting products from talented Melbourne designer Ross Gardam, who also screened footage on the warehouse wall of his design process and behind-the-scenes images.
Completing the Collective was Tide Design with a contemporary range of handmade furniture inspired by 1950s design; and the sleek, highly functional Youmans Capsules customised for creative professionals looking to presenting portfolios in style.
A blockbuster preview event was held on Thursday night with around 120 members of the local architecture and design community turning out for a sneak preview of these standout Australian brands, popping up for Saturday in Design in the Oblica warehouse.
