Ingrid Fuary-Wagner visits HASSELL’s playful design for the Thai telecommunications office.
June 23rd, 2010
One of Thailand’s leading telecommunications providers practise what they preach, transforming their workplace into a playground.
With their tagline ‘feel good wherever you are’, dtac’s corporate philosophy of ‘play and learn’ is mimicked in the design of their new workspace.
HASSELL won the task of designing the new dtac House, an office needed to accommodate 3,500 staff across 20 floors in downtown Bangkok.
The new building promotes a vibrant and creative workplace by challenging conventional norms for meeting, concentration and relaxation spaces.
On the list of priorities for the new office: an area to stimulate ideas and communication.
HASSELL achieved this by simulating effective spaces of interaction in everyday life. The outcome? The ‘Conversation Pit’, the ‘Picnic Table’ and the ‘Dining Room’.
dtac House is an example of an increasing eagerness of larger companies to tend to the comfort and wellbeing of their employees in return for higher levels of creativity and enthusiasm.
dtac staff are encouraged to be mobile and imaginative in their choice of workspace, whether in the library Amphitheatre, in one of the casual meeting lounges or on the open terrace overlooking Bangkok’s skyline.
The ‘funfloor’ as the name hints, is a positive space where work-related activities are strictly off-limits. Here’s where staff indulge in table tennis, indoor soccer, and music performances.
HASSELL’s design aims at creating a space that breaks down social barriers and allows for a personable experience on entering the building. And on the way out, you won’t leave unnoticed with a chance to make a big exit down the slippery slide.
