  • PLICO

With over two hundred entries from all across the Asia Pacific region, our esteemed panel of judges has finally whittled the list down to five. Five exceptional works of design that showcase what’s great about emerging designer talent in our region. These designs are your Launch pad finalists, and it’s time for you to get to know them while we all wait to see who takes home gold at the INDE.Awards on June 30.

The 2017 Launch Pad finalists…

Dora Ferenczi’s PLICO: PLICO is a multipurpose collaboration table. Designed to support the dynamic working styles and creative environments of the modern workspace, Dora Ferenczi’s PLICO is able to work as a stylish standing desk, or as a folded whiteboard unit. PLICO was developed as a response to the dual trends of wellbeing and agile working, in commercial areas where space is at a premium.

Michael Smith’s Big Bench: The Big Bench channels the contemporary trend of incorporating PET panels into designer works, and blow it up to furniture proportions. The bench isn’t only an eye catching and functional place to rest; it also serves as a sound-absorbing barrier. Flat packed and designed for on-site assembly, the Big Bench is a great exemplar of multi-use furniture design.

Steven Swain’s 124 Exhibition Spots: An extreme range of movement and peak flexible illumination drives the design of the 124 Exhibition Spots. The design satisfies the need for a fully adjustable cluster of spotlights that can illuminate a plethora of objects within a space. The rough texture of the hand thrown ceramic fittings juxtaposes and compliments the brass components.

Bradley Mitchell’s Daft Stool: The solid American oak of the Daft Stool was inspired by designer Bradley Mitchell’s friend with a patient presence. A solid, simple and unobtrusive design, the stool’s weigh is crafted to give confidence in space. Stackable and humble, the design is a geometric joy that is as functional as it is eye catching and relaxed.

Jason O’Neill’s Peak Bottle Opener: The solid bronze Peak Bottle Opener is a simple device that it pure function and form in marriage. By removing any obvious handle and creating a shape that doesn’t immediately communicate its bottle opening function, the device promotes and playful curiosity. The easy functional nature of the opener will see it suit any design lover’s kitchen or bar.

For 2017, Launch Pad is joining the INDE.Awards to help elevate Asia Pacific design on the global stage – a truly inspiring initiative, and a fantastic opportunity for our combined region’s emerging design talent to weigh-in on the direction A+D will be taking tomorrow.

These five objects represent a great sample of what’s possible in the Asia Pacific design region. To see who comes out on top and receives Launch Pad gold on June 30, get your tickets to the INDE Awards here!
