We round up the major highlights from Singapore Indesign 2016 (SGID16), from the product debuts to the highly memorable installations at key design locations across town.
October 10th, 2016
Now that Singapore Indesign 2016 has successfully concluded, it is time to zoom in on what we saw at the event circuit. Covering a total of nine destinations where a wealth of product debuts and installations were staged, each exhibiting location at this year’s event did not fail to intrigue, provoke and inspire. For those who may have missed this highly anticipated design affair, as well as those who would like to relive the experience, we’ve got you covered in our post-event reviews, so keep your eyes peeled for more.
In part I, we bring you highlights from Space Furniture, Schiavello, JANUS et Cie and Sunlight Luminaire / Louis Poulsen (click here to read Part II).
Space Furniture
Space Furniture
At Space Furniture, the crowd joined in the celebration of B&B Italia’s jubilee by revisiting the brand’s history and milestones with a heritage wall and commemorative books. The documentary, ‘B&B Italia. Poetry in the shape. When design meets industry’, was screened within a serene and green environment in the showroom. Visitors were also amongst the first to see, touch and feel new FLOS pieces in the flesh. This included the award-winning Superloon floor lamp by Jasper Morrison, Kelvin Edge by Antonio Citterio and Bonjour by Philippe Starck.
DEMATERIAL by ip:li Architects and EDL
EDL
EDL‘s reality-altering DEMATERIAL installation took over the facade of The Villa at Space Furniture, conjuring distorted and pixellated visions of the host building. This was made possible through the use of shiny and reflective laminate sheets stacked in a simple locking mechanism. Conceived by ip:li Architects using EDL surfaces, the contextual installation invited visitors to examine laminates from all angles, revealing the innate lightness of the material through a new application.
Idea Wall by Bene at Schiavello
Schiavello
Schiavello showed visitors how the various daily scenarios in the office should feel and function by setting up its showroom with three new products, Karo, Vertical Garden and Focus, alongside the multimedia-based Idea Wall. Each product complements the another – Karo is ideal for informal discussions; Vertical Garden easily softens spaces with greenery and decorative elements; and Focus workstations, composed of soft barriers and booths, are ideal for some serious concentration.
Nick McMicking, the chief representative Asia Pacific of Bene, also gave a step-by-step presentation of the Idea Wall to show how the interactive digital wall module supports meetings, presentations and brainstorming sessions. For instance, the results of creative teamwork can be documented, saved and sent electronically, allowing users to let their ideas flow freely without the fear of forgetting or losing them.
JANUS et Cie
JANUS et Cie
Visitors flocked to JANUS et Cie to marvel at the complex, powder coated aluminium frame and handwoven JANUSfiber that informed the Vino collection (which includes a lounge chair, occasional tables, a daybed, and two- and three-seater sofas). They also got to see and experience the brand’s beautiful Kyoto range of rattan furniture, designed for indoor use.
Patera by Louis Poulsen at Sunlight Luminaire
Sunlight Luminaire / Louis Poulsen
It was all about exceptional lighting design at Sunlight Luminaire, the exclusive distributor for Louis Poulsen in Singapore. The colourful Panthella Mini series by Verner Panton and the Patera by Oivind Slaatto were just a few of the eye-catching products on show.
