Inspired by a forest and as a place to showcase an iconic Italian furniture brand, the winner of The Retail Space at the 2023 INDE.Awards provides experiential respite in a busy city.
December 12th, 2023
As winner of The Retail Space at the 2023 INDE.Awards, Casa de Zanotta by HAS design and research in Thailand receives the ultimate accolade for creativity and originality. The project, located in China, is spacious and sophisticated and provides an experience for all who visit.
Creating just the right environment to visit, touch and buy can be challenging however, Zenith, partner of The Retail Space, recognises the importance of design that stimulates the eye and the imagination and showcases products to their best advantage. The many fine Zenith showrooms located in the Indo-Pacific region are a testament to this and, through its support of The Retail Space category, Zenith celebrates expert design today in the retail sector.

The 2023 INDE.Awards jury commented, “Casa de Zanotta is an exceptional project that challenges our expectations of retail typologies and demonstrates the value of design for greater benefit. HAS design and research seem to have created something from nothing: Starting with very conventional site conditions, natural light has been recaptured into the space and evocative forms have been created – all accomplished with minimal and economical means. Casa de Zanotta is an example of going beyond a given retail program and constraints to create something special for our cities and built environments.”
Casa de Zanotta is a celebration of the first Zanotta furniture museum in China. The design helps to enhance the famous Italian brand and encapsulates the idea of luxurious, creative and elegant design.

The design of the showroom reinterprets and re-evaluates the limitations of traditional furniture showrooms with multi-functional spaces that support art exhibitions, public events and designer salons to create a new dynamic.
There is room to move, abundant light and space to breathe within the floorplan that also features four large columns, each a metre wide. Inspired by the stone forest in Anhui, the interior emulates the idea of a forest and, in turn, becomes a voyage of discovery and space.

Congratulations to HAS design and research in Thailand for presenting the experiential and through design encapsulating a brand that sees Casa de Zanotta recognised on the regional and global stages.
