The DesignSingapore (Dsg) Scholarship drive has returned. It is open to students and industry professionals who intend to pursue full-time undergraduate or postgraduate design studies at local or overseas institutions – even in fields such as Interaction Design and Design Strategy.

The scholarship covers full tuition fees, annual living allowance, pre-studies allowance, developmental course allowance and travel allowances. Yet, the most beneficial aspect of the Dsg Scholarship is that scholars will be groomed to be design leaders and challenged to push boundaries by their assigned mentors from the DesignSingapore Associates Network (DAN) for the duration of their studies.

Additionally, scholars will be able to contribute to DesignSingapore Council projects and initiatives, which allows them to gain new experiences, make new contacts, grow professionally and expand their portfolio.

Since 2005, DesignSingapore Council has been awarding scholarships to 65 individuals with creative flair, the drive to push boundaries, and a heart to serve Singapore. Design trailblazers such as Jon Max Goh, Olivia Lee, Hunn Wai and Hans Tan have emerged from this scholarship programme.

Its most recent scholar, Sheryl Teng (2021) who is an industrial designer, appreciates the opportunity that was given to her and DesignSingapore Council’s efforts in shaping the design culture, community and identity in Singapore. “Since I’m super Singaporean at heart,” she declares, “I ultimately hope to give back to the local design scene. Applying for the scholarship gives me the opportunity to get to know the local design community/scene better and stay updated even when I’m away.”
