Dedon, a pioneering German outdoor furniture label, is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its cult Daydream Daybed by introducing a new, delightfully radiant finish – Citrine.
May 16th, 2023
With its undulating lines, intricate Viennese cane-weaving pattern, and floating fabric embracing the towering aluminium frame, Dedon’s canopy daybed has epitomised the notion of ethereal escapism for over two decades. This quintessential piece was designed by Richard Frinier and takes unmistakable cues from the “One Thousand and One Nights” stories, reinterpreting the concept of dreamy seclusion evoked by the fantastical flying carpets.
Inspired by universal themes that transcend time, cultural references, and geographical settings, the iconic Daydream Daybed is both timeless and contemporary. The organic form, sculpted by imagined motion and rounded edges, finds itself at home in residential and commercial settings, while the bed’s generous proportions – over two metres in width and 138 centimetres in depth – promise comfort and respite, motifs that underlie outdoor set-ups across all typologies. The bed’s hand-woven pattern is crafted in the Philippines by some of the world’s most outstanding weavers, and the artisan quality of its structure harkens back to the idea of luxurious leisure – and is a textural element that feels very current where al fresco furniture is concerned.
These visual cues are further accentuated by the zesty Citrine, the new finish revealed by Dedon to celebrate the Daydream Daybed’s 20th anniversary. The vibrant and confident finish reads as a bright step up from the neutral shades this canopy bed has been seen in, to date. It answers the desire for more distinct, playful, and bold outdoor environments that have been popularised in the recent years. The Daydream Daybed is also accompanied by the side table in the same colourway. Compact yet dynamic, the side table is a radiant pop of colour that highlights the graphic quality of the new, punchy finish.
While both pieces certainly pick up on what’s currently en vogue, they are anchored by a timeless quality and innovative spirit that have defined Dedon’s brand since its inception in 1990. Founded by Bobby Dekesyer, Dedon was originally born out of an ambition to create a completely new kind of woven outdoor furniture. The result was a premium weatherproof synthetic fibre, today aptly dubbed Dedon Fibre. The high-end material has been a cornerstone of the company’s outdoor collections ever since. Over the years, it has become synonymous with a very unique brand of luxurious comfort Dedon has always strived to create with their outdoor pieces.
The new release keeps Dedon’s signature properties and craftsmanship front and centre, while bringing Citrine’s joyfully bright personality to any contemporary terrace or poolside setting. Organic yet bold, refined yet whimsical, and versatile yet unique all at once, Dedon’s signature outdoor design is perhaps more relevant than ever before. And now the new, vibrant colourway of Daydream Daybed is available through XTRA in Singapore.
