Winner of Japan’s Good Design Award and the Red Dot ’Best of the Best’ 2010 award, designed by Chiaki Murata of Hers Experimental Design Laboratory Inc.
March 22nd, 2011
Often, a step stool is a purely functional piece of equipment that is stowed away or thrust into a dark corner when not in use.
Taking what is a perfectly ordinary but useful tool, Chiaki Murata, Managing Director of Hers Experimental Design Laboratory Inc, has created a simple and elegant version that integrates harmoniously into a contemporary interior.
The step stool’s form is clear and reduced to the essential. Slim and graceful, it exudes an elegant appearance achieved through using only formally matched triangular elements for the legs and steps.
Avoiding unnecessarily complex manufacturing processes, Metaphys lucano maintains the basic shape of the classic step stool whilst placing particular emphasis on the details: each element and component is deliberately designed such that the fastening screws remain invisible.
The two- and three-step versions are now available at atomi, with a special limited edition in fire engine red to commemorate its Red Dot win!
