Highlights from The Collectors Show: Chimera and The Singapore Show: Future Proof.

The Singapore art scene appears to be off to an invigorating start in the New Year, first with Art Stage Singapore at Marina Bay Sands, and now the launch of The Collectors Show: Chimera and The Singapore Show: Future Proof by the Singapore Art Museum (SAM).
Donna Ng’s Thirty-one Kinds of Wonderful
Chimera offers visitors a rare viewing of 28 artworks by 18 prolific Asian contemporary artists, drawn from important private collections around the world.
The works not only convey the idea of hybridity and illusion in contemporary art, but underscores the sense of the many social and world issues faced today; they seek to challenge visitors to look beyond the surface, reflect and uncover what lies beneath.
Donna Ong’s The Sixth Day
Featured works include Takashi Murakami’s (Japan) Jesus, Tromarama’s (Indonesia) video work Extraneous, Donna Ong’s (Singapore) installation The Sixth Day, and Yayoi Kusama’s (Japan) painting Sex Obsession, to name a few.
Gerald Leow’s Iron Maiden
Angela Chong’s The Consequence
Future Proof features 26 of Singapore’s brightest young talents – both new and established. The artistic practice of this next generation of local artists takes us from streets to galleries, addressing a wide range of local and geopolitical issues.

Clog 2 – The Asunder
Works include Dawn Ng’s Thirty-one Kinds of Wonderful, Angela Chong’s The Consequence, Vertical Submarine’s A View With a Room, as well as SAM-commissioned works by up-and-coming artists such as Speak Cryptic, Rizman Putra and Grace Tan and Randy Tan.
