The winning entry in an architectural design competition has been dubbed ‘the Lotus Pavilion’.
April 1st, 2013
Noi Bai International Airport’s new VIP Terminal by Singapore architecture firm CPG Consultants is a lotus flower-inspired design with a distinctive petal-shaped pavilion roof.

When completed in late 2014, it will feature an octagonal plan: the reception hall, state lounge and President lounges will form the centrepieces, while the VIP lounges and function rooms will form the angled part of the perimeter.

Just as the lotus flower, Vietnam’s cultural icon, blooms in water, the Lotus Pavilion will rise up from a reflective pool. Each layer of this build-up expresses a play of surface, shape or support. It culminates in a six-segmented vaulted dome structure that springs from the arching petal-shaped roof, which peels away at the top to reveal supporting-truss ribs that meet in a criss-crossing pattern across the centre.
The Lotus Pavilion for Noi Bai Airport’s new VIP Terminal is CPG’s third competition-winning design in Vietnam and the seventh for CPG’s Airport Division.
