Designed by One Space, Bruneblonde in Hong Kong captures the spirit of a 1940s grand Parisian salon.
June 5th, 2013
Located in Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, Bruneblonde is a luxury hair salon founded by celebrated hairstylists Roland Boutin and David Gouygou.
“The salon required an intimate interior of world-class ambitions, for which we created a sumptuous Parisian ‘appartement’ setting – a modern interpretation of that city’s 1940s-era grand salon interiors,” says Greg Pearce, architect and co-founder of One Space, the firm appointed to the project, adding, “The space exudes a sophisticated yet comfortable apartment look and feel whilst sustaining the sometimes demanding conditions of a hair and beauty establishment.”
Crafted timber wall panelling in anthracite and white loosely defines the reception area. Also featured here are internally lit voids displaying the salon’s own custom-formulated hair and skin products, and a custom table made of precious materials
The two main areas within the salon are a women’s styling area and a men’s styling area.
The former is characterise by its simple elegance. White leather styling chairs sit on natural grey limestone floors. A handcrafted and highly-polished copper wall, spanning 8 metres and sculpted in three dimensions to emphasise its mass, mediates between the hectic pressures of the outside world and the tranquility of the salon’s inner sanctuary. Also found here is a flowing line drawing mural created by Italian artists Vittorio Locatelli and Carlo Ninchi.
The men’s styling area is a modern interpretation of a classic barber’s shop, which suggests a more sophisticated take on the traditional haircut experience. The room invokes elements of masculinity in robustly detailed timber paneling, charcoal leather walls, chrome detailing and oak floors.
Lighting in the salon has been designed to achieve perfect colour rendition and shadowless illumination to aid the stylists in their precision cuts whilst generating a relaxing customer experience.
And to further accentuate the look and atmosphere of a ‘living room cum hair salon’, the owners’ own private collection of furniture, objets d’art and artworks have been judiciously inserted into the space.
