The sensational Forma collection from TSAR Carpets evokes energy and optimism, with 25 new rug designs harmonising tactile depth and aesthetic pleasure.
Just in time for spring, TSAR Carpets has debuted a sensational new collection of rugs, blurring the lines between applied design and fine art. The Forma collection is TSAR’s largest yet, described by the premier carpet haus as: “an expansive series of high-concept floor coverings that set a new high-watermark in rug design and manufacturing techniques.”
Conceived during life in lockdown c.2020, the vibrant, texture rich rugs that comprise the Forma collection have been designed over the past year, during the Melbourne-based design team’s individual daily neighbourhood walks.
“The goal was to create designs that exemplify and embody the dawn of a new beginning,” says Teresa Ceberek, TSAR Carpets design manager. “The word ‘forma’ is a playful nod to the imaginative and uplifting shapes in each of the rug’s patterns, as well as the abstract silhouettes of the rugs themselves.”
Leaning into the success and popularity of its previous textural collections (who could forget TSAR’s Saltwater or Lagoon collections?), the team treated the making of Forma as an experiment in technique and materiality.
The new collection is TSAR’s first foray using refined fading techniques to achieve new gradients, as well as the first time they’ve used ribbon yarn as a material to create sculptural rug dimensions. Inspired by the vibrance of nature, Forma culminates in 25 experimental designs that evoke energy and optimism in striking and surreal compositions.
Structured and soft lines offset punchy, bold appearances of colour. The play between organic shapes and never-before-seen textures set this collection apart. Strong, unexpected colours mirror the reverie of nature when its beauty catches you off-guard. Superb graphics and colour vibrancy play off the other, and showcase intricate weave techniques.
Uninhibited colourways and experimental patterns flirt with dynamic, applied design. Energised lines and surprising textures animate the collection. Mutable shapes and vivid light create a surreal landscape to enter. Meticulous material combinations and strong colours craft a multidimensional relationship between artistry and weave details. The physical layering in TSAR Forma collection rug designs creates an invigorating relationship between tactile depth and aesthetic pleasure.
Each incredibly durable TSAR Forma collection rug is hand-tufted from the finest grade of 100% New Zealand wool, undyed wool, Tencel, ribbon yarn and Lurex. Specification, colours and design scale can be altered to suit any project.
