Tiwi design is a collective of around 20 artists operating from Nguiu on the south eastern corner of Bathurst Island – 80km north of Darwin. The artists produce everything from paintings and wood sculptures to ceramics and textiles.

The Tiwi Design artists hand screen print original designs on cotton, linen and silk. The textile production at Tiwi has been operating since the early 80s.

The award winning textiles produced here are now available from Deka for use in upholstery (see the Deka Bench above) as well as soft furnishings, wall hangings and fashion.

“We have been long searching for a suitable locally produced textile collecton as a companion for our Deka furniture range,” says Nora Kinnunen of Deka.

“We are immensely impressed by the work of Tiwi Design in their promotion of the Tiwi culture through the preservation and development of their arts.
