Solids is the new lighting collection from Paul Townsin, and the range showcases the unsung hero of lighting design- the bulb.
March 25th, 2016
Solids follows Townsin’s Me & Me Too range of concrete lighting in 2014, and comes in the form of three suitably solid forms, the Bulb, the Cone and the Taper. Each lighting piece has been designed with the same intention – to set the stage for the too often overlooked light globe.
The bulb is, of course, so integral to the function of all treasured, designer illumination yet is all too often hidden with expansive shades or covers. Townsin wants to highlight the importance of this aspect of lighting design, and does so using Solids.
Crafted in black or white as standard (but with the possibility for custom colours), the trio of designs are manufactured in Townsin’s home of Adelaide from slip-cast ceramic. The three shapes envelope the globe with their straightforward geometric shapes providing a solid foundation, yet do not detract from the globe as the key feature element of the fitting.
Bulb is an ellipsoid shape and hangs with a natural elegance, while Cone is a simple geometric form designed with architectural settings in mind. Taper is based from a square base, with its tapered sides making it an offering where straight lines are desired.
The Solids range is available through Catapult.
