Yves Béhar collaborates once again with Herman Miller to create the first fully suspension back chair.
October 29th, 2010
Taking inspiration from the thin elegant structure of suspension bridges, Yves Béhar’s SAYL chair for Herman Miller uses the same engineering principles in a chair that provides ergonomic support in a frameless design that has no hard edges.
The chair uses special injection moulded urethane, the chair’s trademarked 3D Intelligent Suspension back is hung from a distinctive Y-shaped structure and fixed to the undersides of the seat, pulled in varying degrees of tension which supports different areas of the back. SAYL is designed to adapt to a person’s shape and movements.
The materials used to make the SAYL chair are 21% recycled and 93% of it is recyclable. Béhar’s eco-dematerialised™ approach ensures the chair’s sustainability, setting it on target to achieve MBDC Cradle to Cradle Silver, BIFMA level 2 and GREENGUARD certifications.
