The amount of plastic the world produces is of increasing concern to designers and environmentalists alike. Thankfully, Carpets Inter has a solution – EcoSoft.
As designers and design lovers, we’re facing an issue in 2019. The amount of waste produced in the production of just about everything we love is a global issue. What does it mean to be an environmentally conscious design enthusiast in a world looking towards a future defined by plastic waste and climate change? Things aren’t all dire thankfully – the team at Carpets Inter is changing the world with its EcoSoft carpet tiles, one plastic bottle at a time.
The development of EcoSoft marked a new era in high performance and environmentally friendly carpet design. EcoSoft is made from 80 per cent post-consumer materials, re-engineered from millions of discarded drinking water bottles, plus 5 per cent post-industrial recycled PET. This is environmentally friendly design that feels soft underfoot, looks great, and is helping to change the world.

Designed using this groundbreaking EcoSoft technology, the new Upstream carpet tile collection is launched as a part of Carpets Inter’s philosophy of making the world more beautiful – whether designed or natural. Upstream is the result of over a decade of design expertise and environmental sustainable thought. The Upstream carpet tile collection is launched as Carpets Inter marks the milestone of having recycled over 700 million discarded plastic bottles.
Upstream is available in two distinct designs. Ebb is a dynamic organic pattern that will accentuate any interior, while Flow offers a steady design, continuously streaming in one direction.

One square metre of Upstream with EcoSoft contains the equivalent of 50 recycled 600ml PET bottles, and is 150 per cent more thermally efficient than PVC or bitumen hard-backed carpet tile. It also offers twice the sound absorption qualities of regular hard-backed carpet tile, provides the highest achievable ECSL4 Green Star rating, and scores 100 per cent Green Star points on the Mat-2 calculator.
The new Upstream collection celebrates Carpets Inter’s commitment to recycle a mammoth 1 billion discarded plastic bottles by 2025. When designing using EcoSoft, you’re doing more than ensuring a comfortable, stylish and functional floor – you’re helping lay the groundwork for a better future.

Upstream and the whole Carpets Inter range is proudly available in Australia through Above Left.
