A hit at the 2008 Stockholm Furniture Fair in February was young Swedish designer Johan Wijk. indesignlive.com caught up with the designer to find out what he is up to.
February 29th, 2008
indesignlive: Tell us a little about yourself, Johan?
Johan Wilk: "I am an 28 year old designer from Fengersfors, Sweden. Mostly into furniture and interior design. I live out on the countryside together with my wife and friends in an old grocery. Also the location of my studio."
indesignlive: What are you up to in the studio right now?
Johan Wilk: "I have just released “the Non Square Kids”, which is the new member of my "Non Square" seating family (pictured). It is a slightly smaller version of the "Non Square" seating device, which is also much friendlier to play in for small kids. Comes in a couple of new and fresh disco/workout-colors."
indesignlive: What did you exhibit at the Stockholm Furniture Fair?
Johan Wilk: We have just started a design team called TRANS. It’Âs me, Mya Johnnyson and Raul Peixoto. We are old mates from the years at the university. We all live in different places and it has become a part of the whole idea, to come and visit each other for a couple of days, drink some wine and have some real nice dinners while we work. We launched our first TRANS range of lamps at the Stockholm Furniture Fair in February.
indesignlive: Where can people buy your pieces?
Johan Wilk: The "Non Square" seating range is available on the web, but you can also email me direct if you are interested in buying- or if you just want to say; ’Hi there, nice work!’, ’Good luck mate!’ Or something similar…"
