Get ready to flex your creative muscles and make something memorable at SID.
April 12th, 2023
With Saturday Indesign just six months away, it’s time to formally announce the theme for the 2023 instalment of The Project.
That’s right, everyone’s favourite creative collaboration is back and ready to shake up Saturday Indesign once more. This year, we’re putting the call out to creatives of all persuasions to get in touch and work with our exhibiting partners on an activation centred around the theme of “utopias”.
If you’re an artist, a visionary or a designer of any persuasion, this is your chance to be involved in the industry’s most loved event. Get in touch today and start your collaboration journey or read on for more information.
What is the project?
On Saturday 2nd of September, Melbourne will be transformed into a design playground, with the city’s top showrooms opening their doors for a full-day extravaganza. The antithesis to the tradeshow, Saturday Indesign is all about intimacy and authenticity – forget one giant cavernous location, this event is all about individual showrooms opening their doors to you, inviting you into their space for exclusive product launches, experiences and hospitality. As you travel around the city visiting participating showrooms, you’ll make connections, transform your specification process and refuel with all the latest in design.
The Project is a fundamental part of the Saturday Indesign formula: adding to the showroom experience by creating immersive activations that are brimming with design inspiration.
More than this, it also provides a chance for creatives and brands to work together in new and exciting ways as they collaborate on a joint work that responds to the year’s event brief.
The Project can be anything you dream it to be, from a tangible installation to a digital art piece. The only limit is your creativity!
Utopias
The 2023 theme for the project is “Utopias”, an imagined state of idealism. This year, we want you to picture a better future in a way that makes sense to you, you might draw on conversations around futurism or sustainability, you might be inspired by space exploration or capture your dream holiday destination. Think fields of flowers or installations with water, experimental design models or blueprints into sustainable futures. Lean into recycled material and up and coming talents, look for inspiration in unexpected places and bring the audience into your utopian creation.
Do I need to pay?
No! The Project is free to be involved in. Similarly, brands are not required to pay you a fee.
There may be a cost associated with the final activation however we leave that process up to the participating parties. We do encourage Project participants to work within a budget of $5,000 and to seriously consider their environmental impact when putting together their work.
I’m interested! What’s next?
The Project is now open for expressions of interest. If you’d like to be involved, please register your interest with us and we will put your information on file for a potential partnership. If any of our participating brands would like to explore a Project collaboration with you we will be in touch and introduce you both to get the magic started!
While you wait for your perfect match, why not get inspired by some past Projects or find out some more information on what’s involved.
