Celebrating the ingenuity and astounding, vibrant creativity of our local A+D community, the Corian Design Awards have returned in 2018! And, you can enter NOW!
Since its launch in 1967, Corian® has embodied an innovating spirit of ongoing progress and evolution. A solid surface material like no other, Corian® has become emblematic of the capability of design and technology to truly transform projects, bringing ideas to life and forging ahead on pathways previously thought impossible. Over the years, it has become a staple of Australian commercial and residential design that is regularly used in kitchens, bathrooms, and outdoor environments as furniture, bench tops, cladding, and sinks and basins. Unmatched in versatility and ease of installation and maintenance, Corian® has seen successful application in everything from apartments and health and aged care facilities to hospitality and retail environments.
In 2006, in line with this fearless, pioneering spirit, CASF Australia launched the Corian® Design Awards, which have been held annually ever since. Celebrating the ingenuity and astounding, vibrant creativity with which the Australian design industry is currently abounding, the Awards recognise local designers who have made remarkable and innovative use of Corian® in their design practice. This year, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of CASF Australia, the Corian® Design Awards are broadening their horizons and offering a suite of exciting prizes that includes a trip to Japan.
In previous years, the Awards have rewarded cutting edge design and forward thinking in projects across all commercial and residential subsectors. From hospitals and offices to airports and high-end apartments, past Award juries have looked beyond project types to identify bold, divergent thinking, dextrous material use, and impeccable craftsmanship.
The 2018 Corian® Design Awards will recognise excellence in two categories: residential and commercial. All design practitioners – including specifiers, architects and designers, and students – are eligible to submit their project for consideration, and must nominate which category they wish to be judged in. A winner will be announced in each category at the end of each quarter (March, June, September, and December). Following the announcement of the December winner, all eight winners (four in each category) will be entered into a pool of finalists from which a judging panel of leading architecture and design professionals will select overall winners. One residential winner and one commercial winner will be announced in January 2019.
Finalists will receive editorial and global exposure via the DuPont™ Network, and the two overall category winners will earn a trip to Japan, one of the world’s leading design and technology hubs. Winners will be treated to return economy flights from any major Australian city to Japan, where they will be taken on an exclusive tour of the Corian® factory and a sightseeing trip through Tokyo and Mount Fuji. The prize also includes twin share accommodation and extensive exposure across DuPont™’s media channels. The estimated departure date is currently April 2019.

In design, the concept of absence is particularly powerful – it’s the abundant potential of deliberate non-presence that amplifies the impact of what is. And it is this realm of sophisticated subtraction that Gaggenau’s Dishwasher 400 Series so generously – and quietly – occupies.
Within the intimate confines of compact living, where space is at a premium, efficiency is critical and dining out often trumps home cooking, Gaggenau’s 400 Series Culinary Drawer proves that limited space can, in fact, unlock unlimited culinary possibilities.
Retail surfaces are put under plenty of stress on a daily basis – from constant contact to spills and more. Thankfully, Staron is up to the job.
