The Asia Pacific Space Designers Alliance (APSDA) is a collaborative network of fourteen design associations from across the region, and is this year bringing its conference to Australia for the first time – focussing on the theme of ‘home’.
Since founding in 1998, the APSDA has met every two years in a host city within the region for a 1-day General Assembly (GA) and 2-day conference slash congress event. 2016 is the first time APSDA will be held in Australia, exploring the theme of ‘home’.
Everyone has a relationship to their sense of belonging and sense of home, and what these ideas mean to the notions of family, comfort, nurture, tradition, familiarity and gathering. These are deeply important parts of life that are ingrained in our memory. The theme of home brings these ideas together and explores how through design, the imaginative and the extraordinary ideas of home transpire and resonate.
2016 APSDA Adelaide aims to build upon the significance of home and open up ideas of design through a series of place-centred events, including hosted design centric dinners, expositions, cultural events and a suite of tours and activities for students, capitalising on Adelaide’s scale and regions.
Home is being part of a place; a geography; a region. Home for APSDA is the Asia Pacific and part of the design community. The 2016 APSDA conference signifies the value that the host city of Adelaide.
