You’ve heard the rumours, now believe the hype. Saturday in Design is heading to Singapore in 2011
October 26th, 2010
It’s been a success in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, and in May next year Saturday in Design will take place on the international stage for the first time in Singapore.
As the closest major financial and cultural centre to Australia, there is plenty of opportunity for design dialogue with Singapore – many Australian practices already have offices there. A robust economy and strong government support for the burgeoning design scene make this a logical offshore step for Saturday in Design.
The format will remain the same. All the top designer showrooms in Singapore CBD and around, will be opening their doors to host registered design-loving visitors all day for one Saturday, with buses to shuttle the guests around various design precincts. The differences will be geographical (obviously), the weather (hot!) and the new and exciting Singapore products on show.
On the day, visitors will see some big brand names who already have a Singapore presence, as well as local Singapore design studios and retailers that offer an eclectic mix of product from furniture to lighting, finishes and accessories.
To get the whole Singapore design community involved, The Project will also be taking place. It will be the perfect chance to see what some of Singapore’s hot design names can come up with – how will they stack up against the Australians?
