Gregory Anderson of Trigger Design picks his top ten objects from the 2012 Milan Furniture Fair.
May 10th, 2012
For my Salone Top 10 it is objects that surprise which make the cut – collections or singular pieces that make me think about ’living’ in a different way:
1. ’Marble Strip’ by Michael Anastassiades
The ubiquitous form of the fluorescent tube light given a sexy makeover.
2. ’Resilio’, funeral urn by Adrien Leroy
Poignant and humble design for pushing up daisies.
3. ’Bookmark’ by Paul Cocksedge Studio and Simili
Turns the bookmark/book relationship on its head. Everything Paul Cocksedge designs look effortless. Filed in the ’wish I had thought of that’ drawer.
4. ’Variations’ by Patricia Urquiola for Baccarat
’I Dream of Jeannie’ for the 21st century. Hand crafted crystal which stacks together to create totem-like forms and delicious colour fusions.
5. ’Lace Metal Lamp’ by Form Us With Love for Cappellini
Ethereal lamp constructed from expanded metal mesh, an industrial flooring material not known for its delicate qualities.
6. ’Jekyll and Hyde’, La Chance (pictured at top)
French company debuts a clever dual collection of cartoon vibed/sophisticated pieces by clever curated cosmopolitan design collective. A fresh design language at play here.
7. ’Suspended Tube Lamp’ by Doreen Westphal
The strong silent type – magnetic concrete base allows lamp to defy the laws of nature. Lamp also retracts like a fishing rod-style.
8. ’Cassiopeia’ by Fabrica for the Italian Chair District
This room divider references front of stage/back of stage. Life as performance? I say yes. Send in the clowns.
9. ’Shaping Silestone®’ by Fernando and Humberto Campana for Cosentino
The perfect marriage – kitchen meets Swiss Army Knife. I can’t boil water but this kitchen makes me want to flip, fillet and fricassée all night long.
I didn’t think Missoni would work in minimal colour, but these new weaves prove me wrong. A unique, ’soft’ translation of Missoni’s iconic patterning.
