Following the success of last year’s Launch Pad program, the important design initiative has now opened its 2012 submissions to emerging Australian designers looking to put their prototypes into production.
February 17th, 2012
Launch Pad Entries are open until 30 March 2012, and can be made online via the Launch Pad website.
Thanks to the vital support of major sponsors Living Edge and How We Create, Launch Pad continues to support emerging designers with a block-bluster prize package that includes:
– A $10,000 grant
– The opportunity to have your product retailed
– Mentoring from national and international manufacturers, designers and retailers
– Exposure to 5,000+ members of the A&D community through the Finalists Exhibition, showing as part of Saturday in Design, in Melbourne 17 – 18 August 2012
– Important coverage through Indesign’s print publications and online media forums.
Winner for Launch Pad 2011, Jonathon Logan, took out the top prize for his De Sade side table which has seen him focus the last 9-12 months on developing his range with assistance from Living Edge.

Comprised of 25 individually hand-lathed legs, the De Sade will soon be available to buy through Living Edge.
“Living Edge, Indesign and How We Create have been great, making available resources that have allowed me to sidestep issues that would have slowed the sampling process,” says Jonathon.
“At the moment we are working to resolve a range in various sizes, colours and applications which will include follow-up projects to continue the concept.”
Jonathon’s achievements are an exciting outcome for a designer who only last year entered into Launch Pad for the first time.
As an important Australian design initiative, Launch Pad promotes the support and development of Australian product design through a unique, interactive program of events.
The Launch Pad program provides the local and international design community with a vital avenue to nurture and celebrate original, authentic and innovative emerging Australian design, thus supporting and cultivating the careers of those product designers involved.
As exemplified through Jonathon’s rapid rise, the depth and breadth of Launch Pad goes far beyond its annual exhibition of prototypes, promoting real life outcomes, and real relationships between people, ideas and products in design.
Launch Pad entries for 2012 are now open, and will close 27 April 2012.
