The luxury appliance manufacturer opens The Miele Laundry Care Exhibition this Thursday 22 October. Tamsin Bradshaw reports.

Miele Exhibition at ifc mall

This week, visitors to ifc mall‘s Oval Atrium will get a history lesson. From 22 October, Miele celebrates its proud legacy of design and technology with The Miele Laundry Care Exhibition, showcasing, among other things, five of the German brand’s most significant laundry appliances over the past 114 years. First, there was the original water-powered washing machine, which was made of oak and emerged in 1904; Miele will take you through time right up till today, introducing its state-of-the-art, fully automatic washer, the Miele Twin Dos.

Visitors to the exhibition can see the Miele Twin Dos in action at the Miele Lab, where interactive experiments will be underway that will demonstrate the machine’s impressive cleaning capabilities. More demonstrations will be happening in the Home Care Corner, where visitors will get insights into how to care for different fabrics at home.

Floating above it all is a striking, sculptural installation that’s evocative of swathe of fabric spinning inside a washing machine. The red fabric is surrounded by giant bubbles that add to the feel of a load of washing in motion, and the overall effect is symbolic of Miele’s long association with fabric care through pioneering washing technology.

Also on show at the exhibition will be Miele’s “exploded 3D Machine”, which lets viewers see the Twin Dos from every angle, plus inside and out.

Studio Cassells conceived the designs for the exhibition space and the installation, in partnership with Blue Mount, which did the production.

Founded by David Cassells and Lucy Cant, Studio Cassells is a multidisciplinary studio that specialises in product and environment design. The Miele Laundry Care Exhibition is open from 22 to 25 October between 10am and 9pm. Admission is free. Oval Atrium, 1/F, ifc mall, 8 Finance Street, Central.
