Created with the intention of expanding interior design possibilities, ‘StayDream – A Surreal Reality’ invites an examination of the various ways we perceive indoor and outdoor elements.

Japanese furniture brand Stellar Works and Sony’s Creative Center will join forces at NYCxDESIGN 2023 for a presentation that examines the nature of experience and explore the ways in which physical and meta realities can coexist.

Set to take over the entire Stellar Works showroom on New York’s Canal Street during the city’s signature design festival, ‘StayDream – A Surreal Reality’ is billed by its organisers as an experiential and sensorial feast of storytelling.

Attendees can look forward to entering an immersive environment, in which a series of conceptual elements, focusing variously on key indoor and outdoor elements, are presented.

According to the organisers, the resulting installation is intended to demonstrate the juxtaposition of the ambience of nature within the context of interior spaces, providing exciting future possibilities which enhance a sense of wellbeing in our homes. Or to put that another way, it explores the possibilities of design via the lens of creativity, to provide the audience with an ambient experience using both space and furniture.

Explaining the motivation behind the presentation, Hirotaka Tako, creative director and head of Sony’s Design Centre Europe, commented: “We wanted to discover how technology, craft, entertainment, and hospitality could seamlessly merge to a point where both virtual and physical experiences coexist. I believe that our collaboration with Stellar Works will make this possible.”

Together we have created an experience that combines Stellar Works’ skills in furniture design and manufacturing with Sony’s unrivalled expertise in innovation and technology.”

A joint installation, StayDream – A Surreal Reality, will be hosted at Stellar Works’ New York showroom: 304 Canal Street, New York, from 18–25 May, 2023.
