The construction of one of Melbourne’s leading art galleries required the skills and expertise of builders Soho Projects.
November 30th, 2011
Following a series of successful collaborative projects, Soho Projects were brought on board by Locandro Group to work with architects HASSELL on the Lesley Kehoe Galleries, a leading Japanese art dealer in Melbourne.
Working within a strict budget and limited timeframe – with a Christmas break in between – as well as having to source a range of specialised materials locally and overseas, Soho Projects called upon their resourcefulness and project management skills to meet client requirements.
To capitalise on the 10 metre high ceilings of the space, the architects incorporated a floating bamboo ceiling, specialised light fittings and various levels into the gallery. Thanks to Soho Projects’ expert planning and procurement, materials were supplied from all around the world.
Natural dark wood was sourced for the flooring, ceiling and joinery to add depth and darkness to the otherwise light-filled space.
The result, in the words of the team at Soho Projects – is the best looking art gallery in Melbourne!
