Off the Grid by Shaw Contract has been chosen as the 2019 Green Building Product of the year at the recent Sustainability Awards.
Back for its 13th edition, this year’s Sustainability Awards was bigger and better than ever. The gala dinner took place at Sydney’s iconic waterfront location, The Star and highlighted the most creative, innovative and sustainable minds across the industry. With nearly 200 entries and a record-breaking number of 65 finalists, the winning list of 17 awardees definitely impressed. Shaw Contract’s Off the Grid collection was chosen as 2019 Green Building Product of the year.

The need to connect; to reflect; to simply stand still and be in the moment is ever more compelling. As our schedules leave little time for reflection and our digital lives remove us from our senses, we yearn for the calming power of a soft surface and the visual harmony found in nature for physical connection. The Off the Grid collection by Shaw Contract is a deeply textural collection of undulating patterns that mirrors the natural world and forges deeper connections to the world around us.
The colour line was directly derived from the landscapes that were encountered while travelling off the grid. Shaw Contract designers travelled to very different environments and encountered a variety of place that would inspire the collective palette. The team collected samples of natural materials in these environments and then worked to develop a colour line that was not only authentic and true to the source of their inspiration, but would also provoke a sense of calm into the spaces it was installed.

“This collection offered the opportunity to break free from routine and seek out new experiences in remote and unfamiliar places,” explains Ashley Olson, Design Director at Shaw Contract.
“Finding moments of solitude in the uncluttered landscape free of distraction allowed us to remain open to the unexpected. The patterns in this collection offer an abstracted view of the landscapes we encountered and an honest and authentic colour palette was directly derived by our surroundings.”

Off the Grid is Certified Cradle to Cradle Silver and assessed for impact on health and the environment. The collection is also recyclable, contains pre-consumer recycled content, and can contribute to both LEED and WELL certification. The collection is Declare red list chemical free and produced in one of Shaw Contact’s worldwide Carbon Neutral facilities.
