Production designers on Ridley Scott’s 2012 Blockbuster: Prometheus, cast the net wide in seeking out the right furniture for their futuristic, sci-fi film sets
July 18th, 2012
Brisbane, Australia’s furniture and lighting outfit Luxxbox Design were contacted by Ridley’s team who had their lenses firmly focussed on the ’Brainwash Outdoor’ Collection.
Designer and Luxxbox founder: Jason Bird, was overjoyed with the opportunity:
“Being asked to be involved in a film of this calibre was a dream come true. I grew up on a healthy diet of Star Wars… His films ooze a new kind of sci-fi design style setting his vision apart from the rest, this in part influences my style now.”
Deciding to proceed with a custom variant of Bird’s collection, the process involved around-the-clock digital re-modelling and all subsequent manufacturing carried out in the UK, adjacent to the Pinewood Studios where the film was shot.
The Brainwash collection is a study in simplicity; achieved by forming, zinc priming and powder coating a single piece of steel.
Established in 2006, the home grown success story continues to go from strength-to-strength with a recently established Californian production facility serving the North American market and beyond.
