June 21st, 2012
Staron® Design Award judges Mandi Keighran [Indesign Magazine], Stephen Varady [Kann Finch Group] and Amanda Stanaway [Woods Bagot] have met and decided on the winners for Edition 1, 2012 across 3 categories – Commercial, Residential and Concept.
Taking out the Commercial Category are Mark Damant, Bronwyn McColl and Finian O’Dowd of Woods Bagot. They have been recognised for their work on The Waterfront Place foyer refurbishment in Brisbane.
This project was a high-end open plan foyer space. A low height division wall was created with angled steel and thermoformed Staron® Solid Surfaces in colour Onyx.
It continues through the length of the lobby into the front desk work surface. A series of organic and linear elements informed the final design thus enabling the lobby to be revived and transformed into the ultimate business and social meeting destination for tomorrow.
The Residential Category winner was Richard Cardy of Richard Cardy Design. Cardy designed an amazing home in Perth featuring Staron® Quasar White and California Poppy in different rooms of the home.
An open 100mm thick thermoformed curved island unit was created and is the stand out feature piece as you enter the open plan kitchen space. The Staron® Solid Surface on the island continues in one monolithic surface, and flows into double Staron® integrated sinks.
The Concept category was won by Amy Quinn of Amy Q Design.
Quinn designed a concept for a custom bench seat. The design features Staron® Solid Surface that starts at the top of the seat back, and is thermoformed to continue to the seat base.
The seat frame is made with American Oak timber that is rounded to support the curved Staron® at the top, and continues to the floor in a square finish.
