Materiality is a big deal now – and some have known its value for years!
Iconic Australian architect and designer Hannah Tribe from Tribe Studio and metal craftsman Adam Corry have teamed up to create new brand Bit Part – having crafted a series of killer fixtures, fittings and finishes to launch.
“It is quite simple,” they said. “We want to be the best in architectural hardware; the best bits and parts people in the world.”
Bit Part is a collection of sustainable, beautiful hardware that refocuses our attention on these small pieces as the point of sensory engagement. A bit part is a cameo role in a play, a minor piece of the action vital to the production. These cameo roles have special significance. While small in relation to the whole they stand out and matter deeply.
The compelling thing about Bit Part is the heft. Concentrating on pure materials – marble, brass, stainless steel and bronze – they worked to minimise the number of moving parts, to experiment with unfinished surfaces and concentrate on the sensation of touch. Bit Part plays to the strength that door hardware is the point of sensory engagement in the home.
Designed and made locally, there is a great deal of pride in the manufacture of Bit Part. There is no artifice as these pieces are unfinished and will tarnish through touch and build up their own history.
