With Saturday Indesign 2008 and the Launch Pad design competition just around the corner, we decided to catch up with last year’s Launch Pad winner, Anthony Dann.
June 13th, 2008
During Saturday Indesign, 2007, Aussie designer Anthony Dann was awarded the Lauch Pad award for his innovative and sustainable Mitsy stool.
Design superstar and special guest of the event, Giulio Cappellini loved the winning design so much that he asked Dann to redesign it for him in an alternate material.
“He loved the cardboard stool”, said Dann, “…I worked on these designs this year, after putting my architecture studies on hold, and took the results to this year’s Salone del Mobile.”
Dann chose Woven Image’s Echo Panel to work up the designs, and took the results to Milan in April, with the help of a Woven Image sponsorship. Cappellini were impressed. Stay tuned for the verdict.
Dann has kept busy this year since winning Launch Pad, establishing a new design studio, Paper Tiger Products. The venture, which commercialises his award winning and celebrated Mitsy Stool (now called the Paper Tiger Stool), is a one-man operation out of Melbourne.
Dan will be participating in Melbourne’s State of Design festival in July, showing the new Echo Panel designs and work presented to Cappellini.
