Nendo has designed a new women’s fashion floor within the main building of Seibu Shibuya department store in Tokyo. Called “Key to Style”, it is connected by a walkway to the Compolux retail section located in the annex building, which Nendo designed in 2013.

Key to Style draws its inspiration from a mobile amusement park and is targeted at the young customer. The floor features a herringbone pattern in a monotone scheme, while wood accents and pastel blue ceilings and walls go far in enlivening the space.

The sales area is inspired by a circus tent and features cross-shaped passages that run diagonally to improve traffic flow and create a line of sight. Products are arranged by brands in ‘market stalls’.

The same herringbone floor pattern in a grey scheme can be found in Compolux, and Nendo enhanced that connection by merging the two herringbone schemes in the passageway linking both spaces.
