Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp, fjmt, secured the New Teaching and Mixed Use Laboratory International S-Lab design award for the firm’s Tyree Energy Technologies Building.
November 2nd, 2015
The S-Lab awards night, held at University of Leeds in the United Kingdom, is the culmination of a global initiative that recognises best practice design and operation of laboratory facilities and design. The Tyree Energy Technologies Building from fjmt was the only Australian project selected from a pool of over 40 international entries.
Located at the gateway of the Tyree University of New South Wales campus, the Energy Technologies Building is a powerhouse that’s been designed to provide a space for researchers, educators and industry leaders to collaborate on the development and implementation of future sustainable energy technologies. With the building receiving a 6 star Green Star certification from the Green Building Council of Australia, it’s no surprise it secured the S-Lab award.
“The 2014-15 Awards – which attracted entries from around the world – show that laboratories find the ‘holy grail’ of better science, improved effectiveness and efficiency and lower environmental impact if they rethink many traditional precepts of design and operation” said S-Lab Director, Peter James
