This year at Singapore Indesign Intimate, The Project challenges Exhibitors and their creative collaborators to contemplate the notion of ‘Balance’ in an increasingly complex and multi-layered world.

Always a highly anticipated feature at Singapore Indesign, The Project is a collaborative programme that pairs up Exhibitors with architects, designers, artists and other creative studios for the creation of installations that never fail to surprise and engage.
This year, in our two Curated Spaces (Red Dot Design Museum and the National Design Centre), participating teams will be working to the notion of ‘Balance’ – the freshly announced theme for The Project’s 2015 edition.
The theme emerged from consideration of the fact that as the years go by, the world in which we live, work and play becomes ever more richly layered and complex. Today we have more information and connections at our fingertips than ever before, and a far more deeply layered experience of the world. The overlap that we all experience between work life, home life and play is just one example of this.
‘Balance’ poses the question of how we can find harmony amid the complexities and myriad possibilities that present themselves to us. How do we weigh up all the forces in our lives, and indeed, in the design industry? How do we calibrate our personal and professional interests with the interests of others? How can we find the middle ground in a complex world?
We challenge our participating teams to manifest their thoughts about balance in an installation that pushes creative limits and brings new inspiration and insights. And if last year’s installations are anything to go by, visitors to Singapore Indesign Intimate will be in for memorable experiences and spectacles in 2015.
In 2014, The Project theme was ‘Future’, and collaborative teams served up impressive installations ranging from a tilted prismatic box offering new perspectives on a classic furniture piece (DREAM with Topos Design) to a towering laminate tree (EDL with Formwerkz) to a surreal sky, and landscape (Xtra with ID21).
How will participating teams interpret ‘Balance’ in 2015? How can they inspire us to think of ‘Balance’ in ways we haven’t yet conceived? We look forward to new levels of inspiration at Singapore Indesign Intimate on 9 and 10 July.
