Electrolight’s LightCycle competition returns in 2014, offering entrants the challenge of designing with one of the most sophisticated LED lights in the world!
July 22nd, 2014
Electrolight has been consistently involved in grass-roots, community lighting initiatives throughout the company’s ten-year history. They have organised events that promote lighting design to the wider design community and beyond through talks, participatory events, festivals and exhibitions.
2013 LightCycle entry ‘Slow Motion Catastrophe’ by Simon Knott, Rory Hyde and Tai Snaith
The most prominent of these events has been the LightCycle competition, in which participants are given a lighting kit and invited to design a light fixture that embodies the principles of environmental sustainability. In the past the entry kit has ranged from a fluorescent lamp through to early and more advanced LED products. This year, the entry kit is a light engine from Xicato, one of the most advanced LED equipment manufacturers in the world. Not only does it include the the Xicato engine, the kit comes with a range of reflectors and accessories.
This year’s event will be held in association with Melbourne Indesign; Australia’s go-to event for design lovers, which showcases the best in new products and talent in architecture and design. Entries will be judged and displayed at the fabulous Second Story studios in Collingwood on Wednesday August 20.
