The International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI) and the global community will celebrate World Interiors Day 2014, Saturday, May 31, 2014.
World Interiors Day is an annual event spearheaded by IFI and designed to spotlight Interior Architecture/Design. The event actively engages professionals, national organizations, design enthusiasts and the general public to explore creativity, imagination, vision and passion in relation to the role of Interiors in society, culture and our future built environments.
This year’s theme “Design Matters” promotes the role that design serves as a medium for positive change. Design constitutes to life quality with its pervasiveness and serves the human good though creativity and innovation.
The month of May plays host to events highlighting the merits of the Interiors profession and the impact on the quality of life and the built environment. Events are planned by individuals and hosted all over the world, linked by a common theme chosen each year to reflect the values of not only IFI but the industry as a whole.
Types of activities can include:
Work with your Local Government to proclaim the last Saturday in May as World Interiors Day. At the same time have your city adopt the Interiors Declaration to honor this important day. With the issuance of these proclamations, it is also an opportunity to showcase the progressive approach to design and economic development that your city government takes through the concurrent adoption/proclamation of the IFI Interiors Declaration.
Open door programs allow Interior Architects/ Designers to showcase interiors usually not open to the public. Walking tours can be created by combining several of these open door programs.
Open your practice and invite the public into a professional space to see how Interior Architects/Designers work and the environments in which they design
Free student practice day provides students the opportunity to work in design studios for a day and learn the practice of interior design.
Exhibitions and art events in cooperation with local museums and institutions to curate relate to this year’s theme or interior design in general.
Lectures, talks, discussions by Interior Architects/ Designers at schools, public libraries or other institutions will focus on the importance of our living environment.
Kid’s activities for the next generation! Work with educators to engage children in a range of creative, practical or fun experiences that raise their awareness of people and the spaces that surround them.
