Louis Poulsen celebrates the change of seasons by releasing a collection of reimagined classics that embrace the allure of watercolour, the elegance of metal and the versatility of scaling up and down.
Louis Poulsen’s AW23 collection was first seen at 3daysofdesign in Denmark this June. From pendants to table lamps and new lamp colours, they are now available for purchase in-stores in Singapore.
Crafted to feel timeless yet contemporary, the new luminaires honour the Danish masters behind the original forms, taking inspiration from their enduring contribution to the design world and unique attitudes towards light, shape and colour. Here are four stunning lamps from the AW23 collection that are enduring in their designs and make great additions to any space.
The 2023 limited edition PH 2/2 Luna Table Lamp embraces the dreamy elegance of its crescent moon-shaped silhouette and stays true to Poul Henningsen’s original version in both form and function. The design features PH’s distinctive three-shade system with mouth-blown three-layer opal glass that is glossy on the outside and sandblasted matte on the inside, ensuring both a perfect downward directed light and a softly diffused ambient light for ideal illumination.
Originally designed as a small nightstand light in 1939, the new release is a few inches taller in untreated, brushed brass finish and comes with an adjustable head which can be tilted 45 degrees to the right and left. This can easily be done by turning the socket house and tightening the finger screw. The brass switch on the base turns the light on and off. As with earlier limited editions, the PH 2/2 Luna Table Lamp has Henningsen’s initials engraved on the edge of its base. This limited edition lamp is only available in-store and on louispoulsen.com from now till 31st December 2023.
Louis Poulsen rereleased the iconic VL 56 Pendant this autumn in two exquisite finishes: chrome and brass. Originally designed in 1965 as part of Vilhelm Lauritzen’s total work of art, The People’s House, the new version of the light maintains the same striking artwork-like quality. As opposed to a more matte finish on the original cylinder, the shiny materials on the new versions add a touch of luxury and commanding presence to any interior.
A ‘50s icon, the AJ Lamps originally designed by Arne Jacobsen now come in five new colourways: Warm Sand, Soft Yellow, Dusty Blue, Warm Grey and Electric Orange. They complement the existing AJ palette, while embellishing the range with an uplifting sense of joy. Jacobsen, despite his father’s disapproval of his artistic aspirations at a young age, continued painting watercolours throughout his life, drawing inspiration from the diversity of nature and landscapes. The uplifting shades added to the AJ Lamps closely resemble the hues found in Jacobsen’s timeless watercolour artworks.
The mushroom-shaped Panthella also gets a makeover this autumn as Louis Poulsen adds an opal white Panthella 250 Portable to the collection of rechargeable, free-standing lights inaugurated by the popular Panthella 160 Portable. Following demands for a larger shade that can provide wider illumination, the former is created with an additional 90cm in diameter to the shade compared to the latter.
Though Panthella 250 Portable remains a more petite version of Verner Panton’s original, the lamp boasts a translucent shade in opal white acrylic that generates diffused, glare-free light with the inner shade reflecting alluringly in the trumpet-shaped stem. This stunning combination makes the new Panthella 250 Portable the ideal table lamp for soft dimmable light, in any indoor and outdoor setting.
