Sanjay Puri Architects designs a residential development in India that responds sensitively to its location.

The Village is housed on a 2 acre plot set within a generous 100 acre development. It’s located on a steeply contoured site with apartments that cascade down along existing slopes, with each opening onto sheltered terraces and open gardens.
The apartment units are designed like individual houses nestled into the hills. Mirroring the steep, undulating slopes, they each step diagonally or frontally and merge with the terrain, resulting in minimal intervention of the land.
Sustainability forms an integral part of the design. The apartments are built primarily with local basalt stone available on site, feature minimal cutting of land, and the north orientation of all houses respond to the searing temperatures of up to 35°C. In addition, the terrace structure ensures that all runoff water is channeled to water harvesting tanks.
Designed in response to the site, The Village is an organic design solution that creates homes that become a part of the existing environment.
