The new ’Allied Health on Centre’ in Bentleigh, Melbourne, is design on a molecular level.
September 12th, 2008
A new clinic designed for Allied Health in Melbourne combines a late nineteenth century, Victorian aesthetic with consulting rooms based on the concept of interlocking molecules.
Offering a mix of different services including psychology, podiatry, dietetics and physiotherapy, Allied Health commissioned Campbell Drake from Chameleon Architecture to design its new permanent clinic with signage graphics and glass front designed by Pandarosa.
The clinic effectively juxtaposes a futuristic, space age aesthetic with ornate chandeliers, ceiling roses, cornices and skirting.
The glass shopfront and signage were created using laser cut translucent vinyl with the design based on Victorian lattice patterns mimicking wallpaper. The ‘wallpaper’ effectively obscures the glass front and gives the waiting room greater privacy.
Internally the ‘pods’ radiate with a rich, warm glow created by the stained ply walls, floors and ceilings, not at all like the typical, sterile ‘medical’ environment.
