As the INDE.Awards gala approaches we have a moment to take stock and reflect on the extraordinary shortlist that has been presented in 2021. Not only have we received the most ever entries to the INDE.Awards this year, but the calibre and diversity of the projects, objects, practices and people involved with the awards has raised the design bar even higher for our region.
As the only Awards program that encompasses the Indo-Pacific, the INDE.Awards is a very special platform for architects and designers. There is the opportunity to connect and learn from each other as the work of talented creatives is displayed on the local, regional and global stage.
This year along with the digital INDE.Awards gala on the evening of 5th August we are proud to present the inaugural INDE.Summit – a one-day, digital conference that will precede the Awards gala. The INDE.Summit will present a line-up of expert practitioners from across the Indo-Pacific who will explore such topics as Housing, Financing Sustainability, Changing Commercial Projects and Culture in Architecture. Through the different perspectives and experience of our panel members there is the opportunity to learn and connect while examining the subjects that confront practitioners of architecture and design today.
As the best minds in the Indo-Pacific will be participating in the INDE.Summit, we asked some of our exemplar judges about their thoughts on the conference.
Brodie Neill, Founder and Industrial Designer, UK / Australia, “Unfortunately, I won’t be able to be there myself though I will follow closely from afar. I am sure the programme will be jam-packed with a stimulating symposium focusing on many of the pressing issues we collectively face today.”
Jeff Copolov, Director, Bates Smart, Australia says, “There are so many critical design challenges for our times: environment, sustainability, community, housing, social responsibility and equity to name a few, the list is long and confronting: only through open dialogue and action will we progress towards solutions on a global scale. I look forward to the INDE.Summit as a forum for this discourse.”
Peta Heffernan, Director, Liminal Studio, Australia reflected, “It is refreshing to have a symposium that harnesses interdisciplinary global outlooks and intelligence, that are applied effectively to local context and relevance. I’m looking forward to thought-provoking stimulation, the exchange of ideas and the potential of new connections and collaborations. I am expecting the breadth of topics framing the Summit to inspire and generate insight, that hopefully will fuel a call to action to do what we can with our skills to create the world we wish to inhabit.”
The digital INDE.Summit will be a day of knowledge and learning to explore the relevant issues that face architects and designers today. It is a chance to delve deep into architecture and design in our region, to assess our similarities and differences, meet the challenges and share the benefits.
